"...there was implied a glaring deficiency in our country's educational processes. It seemed to me that constant stressing of the individual right and privileges of American citizenship had overshadowed the equally import truth that such individualism can be sustained only so long as the citizen accepts his full responsibility for the welfare of the nation that protects him in the exercise of these rights." General Dwight David Eisenhowser, 1941. In his book Crusade for Europe.*
Nineteen hundred and forty-one, a brilliant genius and General was able to perceive this. A deficiency in our country's educational process. How is it this deficiency has been allowed to last and prosper for so many years? When did Conservatism loose control? The very building blocks of our Great Society are founded on God and Country. Now, the only place you can mention God is in the country outside the listening ears of the liberals that haunt so many of our large metropolitan cities. God is being removed from the schools, the public buildings, the government offices and the National Day of Prayer has been removed from the Whitehouse and replaced with a Muslim prayer rug. We have a President who not only refuses to place his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played but only wears a flag emblem when it fits his political path.
We have laws against homosexual marriage but same sex marriage is condoned in several states in the United States. Laws have been and are being passed to the extent that a minister, pastor, rabbi or preacher can't preach the Bible without the fear of being arrested for preaching a so called "hate crime" Where did we loose control? We have "holiday trees instead of Christmas trees. We have winter school break instead of a Christmas break. Try finding a Nativity Scene for your yard at Walmart, Lowes, The Home Depot. Drive through your neighborhood and count the number of yard decorations VS the number of Nativity Scenes. I'll bet you it is 10 to 1, easy. I personally refuse to buy from any store that sets up Christmas displays before November which is still too early. Yes, it limits my choices but it's my choice!
I personally am fed up with this complete mess. I have started bringing the true meaning of Christmas back to my house. No more bunches of presents from Santa Claus, no more spending a fortune on junk for the grandkids. On Christmas eve we read a blended story of the birth of Christ taken from the Gospels and exchange one gift in honor and remembrance of the Birth. Then the little ones are off to bed and most of the adults attend a service at a local church.
I understand it is hard to do, stand up and be counted however, the next time you are in a store and a manager asks you how it's going tell them you really would like to keep Christmas in December and the meaning of it in the store.
I'm all through preaching now.

Good one, Pops.
Here's a bit of a trend I spotted the other day at Walmart. Yes, I occasionally go to WallyWorld because it's very close to where I live. My other choice is to drive over to Coeur d' Alene. It's not a great distance by any standard, but it does eat up time.
Anyhoo - I was looking at the Christmas cards and, lo and behold, the majority were religiously themed. Huh? In the past finding a religiously based card was next to impossible. Say what you will, but WallyWorld knows which way the wind is blowing. I saw this as a good sign.
As children we always received once "big" gift and lots of cute small stocking stuffer type things. I'm astonished at the cost of things that kids want today. $400.00 phones and such?? Nuts!
As soon as we were old enough, midnight Mass was the big deal. Before that it was Christmas morning. And always big family dinners...
Thank you both for your comments I seem to feel that I may be back and now need to stand up and be counted.
God Bless,
Pops
