Ever have one of those nights where you wake up and can't get back to sleep no matter how hard you try? Well, I did. Tonight/today, is one of them. In bed by 10:00PM and wide awake by 3:00AM, AND I CAN'T GET BACK TO SLEEP! I have tried everything I know, cup of Sleepy Time Tea, watching infomercials on the tube and finally my best but last resort, lying on the floor in front of the wood stove like the cat. Ain't nothing working. The result, Greg Gutfeld on FOX and t his post.
I am not normally a watcher of Mr. Gutfeld, I like to be sleeping when his "Red Eye" show is on. However, tonight was, of course the exception. Mr. Gutfeld and his guests were discussing a Doritos commercial that was apparently to be played during the Super Bowl. Since it hasn't happened yet, the Super Bowl, this commercial hasn't played and may not be. So why the controversy? Somehow the commercial that didn't make the cut made it to the airways and the airways on FOX have made it news.
I invite you to watch the FOX News people discuss this commercial. Oh yes, why are they discussing it on FOX News? Well, apparently it uses the Holy Communion as a selling point for Doritos. Clik here, watch the discussion and see what you think. Then come back here for my response. About 10 lines down. No cheating, I don't want to influence you.
So I lied, its only six lines down. Personally I just quit eating Doritos, PERIOD! I am sick and tired of being singled out because I believe in God and hold certain ideas and traditions sacred, Holy Communion is one of them. I am writing to Frito Lay, the parent company of Doritos at this address, clik here, and explaining my small but symbolic protest of their tasteless commercial. I wish you would do the same and pass this on to your friends and family. I know of a Senior in college that has more class than the marketing people at Doritos. His name is Andy Dalton and you can read about him in my previous post. He, unlike Doritos/Frito Lays, is a real class act!

My Rule for Life
I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.

As if we Didn't Know
Just to cite my source up front. This comes from the Monday, March 9,2009 USA Today, Key West, Florida addition. My comments come from somewhere in the belief that there is a God and God will prevail over all. It is not up to me to understand His Plan but, merely to believe. I have only a layman's knowledge and in no way am a Biblical Scholar. Point: Please don't try to nickle-dime me to death of a small point.
USA Today, Cover Story:
Most religions are losing ground. Gee, those of us with some kind of brain and belief could have told you that! There in lies the sad part of this entire newspaper article. It appears all major religions are losing ground in this country. The 3rd largest number of polled persons stated "none" as their religion. Numbers are fine but like the mathematician said, Numbers can lie. I don't believe these numbers lie. They are what they are. In my opinion, sad.
After reading this lengthy article what struck me was a comment by a couple who reportedly "left behind their childhood religion". They had no religious ceremony at their wedding and failed to have their child baptized. Here is what is disturbing to me. The wife said,"we discussed Baptism, but we would only have done it for his mother and my father, so we decided no,". That's fine if you don't want to do it just to please another. I would almost call that commendable. But,
Morons! How about giving the child a fighting chance! I call it preparing for the future. Kind of like being a Boy Scout. Be Prepared. You may choose to live your life without God in it but, as this young child gets older at least give him a chance! Like your parents gave you the opportunity to make a choice, no matter how wrong. You made your choice.
Sad part number 2 on this is I work with so many young people that have no belief, no concept, or no understanding of what religion is all about. Regardless of the religion, they just don't care. It's ok if they live together, it's ok if children are born out of wedlock, it's ok if they cheat on a test. As long as it doesn't affect them. They say it's none of my business. Being a couple generations older than some of the people I work with I try to explain the concept. I fear more often than not it falls on deaf ears.
I will say one thing for me personally. My parents raised me in the church. I wandered away for several years and then came back. My wife and I gave our children a chance to decide. Does that make us good parents. I don't know, but we gave them a chance.

I have said before this Blog probably should have been named "Conservative Christian Outrage". Myself, my family and this country derive our basic principles from the Constitution of The United States. The learned gentlemen who wrote that document believed in God and the Holy Bible. That is quite apparent if one reads the Constitution as it was written, not as some left wing liberals choose to twist it to fit their morals and ideals.
I am very lucky as I have friends much more knowledgeable in scripture than I. I was lucky enough to have one of these friends give me some spiritual uplifting this past Monday morning. The uplifting came in the Book of Daniel, Chapter 4 and goes like this:
Daniel 4:32
And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.*(my emphasis)
This reminded me of a conversation I had on line with a lady, name unknown but who lived in New York at the time of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade center. This lady was very upset and quite worried there were more to come. As I said I am not a Biblical scholar by any means. After quite a while of chatting with her and others on line it came to me. In the course of the conversations on line she had said she was a Christian. She said she just didn't know what to pray or what to do. I told her quite simply pray what Jesus prayed when in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested and taken away.
Mark 14:35
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.*(emphasis mine)
These two verses give me hope and solid grounding as we begin a new season in my beloved country. As I said in my November 4th post, it's over. My guy lost. I will support the new President until such time as he proves, like William Jefferson Clinton, he is unworthy of the trust and the position. It is not always what we want but, what He wants.

Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Destruction of the embryo in the mother's womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon this nascent life. To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder.
