My Rule for Life

I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

It's that time of the year for overeating, football games, parades and aunts pinching your cheeks saying how cute you are. I suppose all that is true. It's also that time of the year that tugs at the heart strings of most Americans who remember the story of the "First Thanksgiving" taught in the history books. We've all heard it, about the Indians and the Pilgrims together eating wild turkey, corn and whatever was the bill of fare in the 1600's. I have heard several versions on the tube and radio today. To my amazement they all have one central theme. God, Freedom, Self-reliance and Perseverance. How can that be or should I say, "What the He__ happened!

Folks regardless of the price of gas, the cost of health insurance, the morons in Washington D.C. or aunts that pinch you till your cheeks are black and blue we live in the greatest country on the face of this Earth, bar none! Where else can you reach the standard of living we have. Yes, there are some who could be improved, there are some who live extravagantly and there are a cotton picking whole bunch of us who although we struggle from time to time wouldn't trade it for anyplace else!

Most of us will have food in our bellies tomorrow, a fire in the furnace, a roof over our heads and our families near. Nobody gave that to us. We earned it! We fought our Native American brothers and displaced them from "their" homeland, we fought the British, we fought in every major war and we are the giving-est people in the world. Our scientists have conquered major diseases and it was an American who give us this lovely Internet. And, you know what? We did it with the help of G-d, and just plain hard work.

So when you read this, sit back, relax, close your eyes and just for a minute be thankful for everything you have and have worked for and earned!

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody

Thank you Pops, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well.

I'll go out on a limb here, and predict that Ohio St. will beat Michigan this year...
and that you will find warmth and solace among family and loved ones tomorrow.

Your name will be among those which I will lift up in thanks to God tomorrow at our gathering.

Pops, you are a dear. And I hope you had a wonderful day full of plenty of food, fun, memories (both old and new ones) and peace from Papa. We lifted you in our prayers today. Shalom, Spitfire

we are lucky to have been born here.
I hope you had a good Thanksgiving and are eating leftovers today.

Elizabeth, "their" homeland very simply means THEY WERE HERE FIRST! We displaced "them" to reservations far from where they originally were. I think that is pretty understandable.

Thanksgiving was nice, Thank you for caring and commenting. And yes, I am eating leftovers as I type this!

I hope you had a nice visit and safe time.

Uh oh- I anticipate an open can of worms ahead, Pops.
You opened that can with your phrase '"their" homeland', and pretty soon Elizabeth will jump on that, claiming it to be an admission of national guilt, and to validate her views on Palistinian life today. Or slavery. Or the pitiful plight of the Snail darter fish.

Mal, You may be right however, Your people were here first, before the...say we say invaders from afar. In my humble opinions the Jews were in that region first. They is really no room for debate, as I said, IMHO. There may however be some "wiggle" room for he snail darter!

hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I'm sure it was hard, I was and am thinking of you and your family during these first, toughest holidays.

Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Destruction of the embryo in the mother's womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon this nascent life. To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder.
