My Rule for Life

I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.

CUT BAIT OR FISH, MR. PRESIDENT!

From about two months after 9-11 the Democratic far left has been screaming President Bush made the wrong move by going to Iraq instead of Afghanistan. President Obama was one of the loudest voices. He and other Democrats wanted the US's war effort directed toward the killing (maybe) or capturing of Bin Laden reportedly in Afghanistan. President Obama used that as a platform, so to speak, as one of his campaign promises.

After being elected he fired, President Bush's Commander of the war effort and replaced him with "his" new commander. Gen. Stanley McChrystal
was installed and advised to develop a new plan for Afghanistan. He did just that. This week the Washington Post leaked a report that said,

Senior military officials emphasized Monday that McChrystal's conclusion that the U.S. effort in Afghanistan "will likely result in failure" without an urgent infusion of troops has been endorsed by the uniformed leadership. That includes Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen and Gen. David H. Petraeus
.*

Once again, a Democratic President is in a position of having American troops fight and die in a war without the Commander in Chief's full and total support. IMHO this is TREASON or at the very least cowardice on the part of President Obama. He has either purposely or through malfeasance failed to uphold his Constitutional oath.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." **

Malfeasance: noun Law. the performance by a public official of an act that is legally unjustified, harmful, or contrary to law; wrongdoing (used esp. of an act in violation of a public trust). ***

The oath says to the best of my ability and maybe this is as good as it gets, if so step down President Obama our young Warriors deserve better. Perhaps he could stay in the White House for a while and off the television long enough to read "his" General's report.

It is further being reported that when previously faced with this assessment in March of this year President Obama failed to act on it and said he needed more time. This classified report is only now coming out. It now appears President Obama does not believe HIS own Commander he assigned to conduct this war effort. It is also being reported on Fox News that General McChrystal was instructed by his superior, Secretary of Defense Gates NOT to appear before Congress after the report was prepared and given to this Administration.

According to top Presidential advisers President Obama "wants more time" before making a decision about what to do in Afghanistan. MR PRESIDENT HOW MUCH MORE DAMN TIME DO YOU WANT? HOW MANY MORE OF OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN MUST BE KILLED OR MAIMED BEFORE YOU GET A SET OF KOHONIES AND GET INTO THIS WAR, (which you wanted as Senator, all 105 days) OR GET THE HELL OUT!!!

It seems to me President Obama is willing to rush forward with a health care plan, a plan to bail out the auto industry, a plan to raise energy costs by $1700+ for the average American, spend Trillions of $$$$ to put Americans back to work but unwilling to make a decision where the lives of our brave young Warriors are at stake.

And yes, I am upset to say the least, I have a dog in this fight and want him to have every advantage he and his warriors can get!!!

Pops,
Damn right I'm proud of my AIRBORNE soldier!

Like many of the self styled "elites" in this country, B.O. cannot realize humans such as himself wear a military uniform. To folk like him they're only numbers on a chart, part of a line on a graph.

By contrast, G.W. Bush would actually shed tears when speaking to survivors of a fallen soldier.

B.O. concentrates his attention on rushing forward with a health care plan, a plan to bail out the auto industry, a plan to raise energy costs by $1700+ for the average American, and spend Trillions of $$$$ to put Americans back to work (using your list) in order to further drive this nation down the socialist path. He has no nefarious intent, no malice, he undoubtedly believes wholeheartedly in what he does.

So did Hitler.

I agree with you whole heartedly Pops!I have two dogs in this fight and we buried a friend's hero son last week. Our troops deserve a Commander in Chief that at the very least knows what the hey he believes in. And if he doesn't believe in them, then he needs to step down! NOW!

Continuing to pray for your 'dog' as well as Rev Gregori's 'dog' and all the other dogs in this fight daily. Hugs to you Pops.
Shalom, Spitfire

PS...check out my new post...have a really amazing event that happened here.

Zerobama wants to, but cannot vote "Present" any longer.
I believe, that it's because it was never a part of his Communist training as a youth-- only bringing a fascism to bear on America.
That Is all he knows. As Subvet above says, to Zerobama all soldiers, seamen, Marines and airmen are merely statistics, and not one iota more.
Dangerous, ignorant man at the helm

my bad: I meant to say "that it's because military leadership/understanding was never a part of Obama's Communist training as a youth-- only bringing a fascism to bear on America."
Pardon~

Fascism and Communism are two completely different and antithetical philosophies, so flinging both terms at someone as an insult is a laughable goof.

As for Afghanistan--I'm halfway through McChrystal's report right now (it can be downloaded as a PDF). So far, everything he says makes sense except...it supposes the Afghan central government will become a functional and respected government to Afghan citizens. A long article I read in The New Yorker by George Packer suggests many Afghans see the government very differently and McChrystal's report acknowledges the extensive corruption and failure to provide basic services. We can't run Afghanistan ourselves; we have to work with someone there who can run the country and right now there does not appear to be anyone. My suggestions would be to set clear expectations for the Afghan government, with a timetable, to show progress on providing services and fighting corruption. If we give them help yet they still can't get their act together, we have to leave. I am in favor of giving it more time because the reality is we haven't been doing much in Afghanistan UNTIL Obama took over--before then, George Bush just sent some soldiers to Kabul, and bombed outlying villages (which just increased the terrorist's popularity).

What I think most people should do is read the book 1948. Every entity that has gone into Afghanistan has been kicked out in a matter of speaking. What Americans have a problem understanding is that although we consider ourselves "Americans", people from Afghanistan do not consider themselves, "Afghans". They are Poshtun, Tajik, etc. They are driven along tribal grounds.

What the President has once felt has now changed. Perhaps he discovered that history has told us that Afghanistan is not a "country" that can be fought through easily. I consider it a damned if we do, damned if we don't scenario. If we do not go in, Al Queda will have a nesting ground. If we do, than blood will be shed and has probably been concluded that it is an ultimate failure. Therefore, I believe that it has less to do with President Obama's lack of support and more to do with making the best decision possible for everyone.

Although considered a "lib", I strongly support my troops. Friends of mine have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I understand the oath that President Obama has taken, but I also understand the tug-o-war that must be going on in his mind that none of us can possibly comprehend.

Godspeed.

Just because people in Afghanistan see themselves as Pashtuns, Tajiks, etc. does not mean they don't see themselves as Afghans. that's like saying that because people in America see themselves as Irish-American, Italian-American, Christian or Jewish or Muslim means that they don't see themselves as Americans...e pluribus unum...

@Elizabeth,
Find the book 1948. It's a great book, especially when it comes to how people who live in Afghanistan view themselves in their society. It is a concept that most Americans cannot grasp and of course, I have a hard time as well. Try the book; it's a great read.

Godspeed.

Elizabeth my dear friend, you know I love you like a brother. You know a brother would not let you hurt yourself. I feel compelled to NOT let you hurt yourself.

You have completely missed the point of the post. Is President Obama, derelict in his duties as President of the United States or is he merely incompetent? Misdirection will no longer work on the Conservatives of America. His hand picked General says I need more troops and equipment to fulfill the task you gave me. Now "CUT BAIT OR FISH, MR. PRESIDENT!"

As for the comment about tribes etc posted by anonymous you are completely off base. Ever hear of African Americans, sounds tribal to me.

As for the rest of the comments, again I thank you all for your intelligent comments and thoughts. That is what this blog is about.

Anne Rettenberg LCSW said...

Obama hasn't made a decision yet, so how can you judge him on Afghanistan at this point?

ABNPOPPA said...

Because he should have! It doesn't take long to read the report and call you General and say Yes, or No.

Pops

You need to be in touch with your General in the region more than once ever 70 days!

Face it Elizabeth he is incompetent

not competent; lacking qualification or ability;

Here's a telling quote from John Burms The New York Times's veteran corresspondent:

"The Bush administration made its choice, many might think fatefully, when it made its primary commitment to the war in Iraq, making Afghanistan a secondary affair — some would say a backwater — and allowing the Taliban to regroup, re-arm and rise again to the point where they have effective control, or at least deny the allies control, of as much as 70 percent of the country." The battle was probably lost back then.

Well, it's 3 weeks later and President Obama has continued to vote PRESENT. Ho Hum, what else is new!

Lutheran Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Destruction of the embryo in the mother's womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon this nascent life. To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder.
